Occupational Therapy
What is occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy is a type of therapy that focuses on enabling people to perform daily activities or participate in activities in their own environment. This therapy is designed to help individuals who experience limitations in daily activities that are important to them. An occupational therapist mainly looks at what someone can still do and advises and trains in such a way that the client can carry out his daily activities as much as possible himself.
At Health Center Bon Bida Bonaire, our occupational therapists offer expert assistance in managing daily activities. We can help optimize your load capacity, sitting posture, and work reintegration for a smoother path to well-being.
Perform daily activities.
Daily activities can include a wide range of tasks such as washing and dressing oneself, preparing food, cycling, working, doing homework, exercising, etc. If an individual has difficulty performing any of these activities, occupational therapy may be necessary.
The treatment
The goal of occupational therapy is to help individuals achieve independence and improve their quality of life. The treatment may consist of practicing, learning to perform an activity in a different way, using an aid, adjusting an activity or the environment, and providing information to informal caregivers and close family and friends. Health Center Bon Bida Bonaire’s occupational therapists work closely together with SGR-group, rehabilitation specialists, Foundation Alzheimer Bonaire, BESt Care Zorgwinkel, the occupational doctors, the ZW groep, and Fundashon Mariadal.
When can you call in an occupational therapist?
Occupational therapy is for anyone who has difficulty performing daily activities.
Is occupational therapy reimbursed?
Fortunately, occupational therapy is typically reimbursed by the local health insurance company. In the case of the ZJCN, occupational therapy is reimbursed for 10 hours per calendar year. This means that individuals who require occupational therapy can access it without worrying about the cost.
How do I contact an Occupational Therapist?
If you encounter a problem with daily activity as a result of an illness or limitation, you must first report this to your general practitioner or specialist. They can write a referral letter for occupational therapy. With this referral letter, you can contact Health Center Bon Bida Bonaire and an appointment can then be scheduled.
Occupational therapy can be incredibly beneficial for individuals who are struggling to perform daily activities. By focusing on the activities that an individual can still do, an occupational therapist can help them regain independence and improve their quality of life. If you are experiencing difficulty performing daily activities, it may be worth speaking to your general practitioner or specialist about whether occupational therapy could be helpful for you.
